Food allergies are abnormal immunological responses to a particular food or food component, usually a naturally occuring protein. Two types of abnormal immunological responses can occur - immediate hypersensitivity reactions and delayed hypersensitivity reactions, and both occur predominantly upon ingestion of specific foods.
