REEL / POWERPACK Operation Instructions Operation The SLICKBAR powerpack is designed for use with SLICKSTOP boom reels only. Any use with other equipment may result in improper operating characteristics. Before starting the engine, read the engine operations manual to insure that all fluid levels are correct and that you are following the proper start up procedures. The Major components are listed below (1) Hydraulic Reservoir (2) L-100 Yanmar diesel Engine (3) Key switch (4) Two way selector Valve (5) Pressure relief Valve (6) Pressure gauge (7) 12 Volt Battery (8) K75 Karman Motor Mount (9) Prince Sp20A14A9H2-R Gear Pump (10) Suction Strainer (11) Anti Foaming Pipe (12) Air breather cap (13) Return Line Filter (14) Return Quick Connect (Female) (15) Supply Quick Connect (Male) (16) Sight Glass/ Thermometer (17) Reel Control Station (18) Trailer The Hydraulic circuitry is a single system operating between zero and 2000 psi. The system has a selector valve which allows the fluid to recirculate back to the tank. The system has an adjustable, in-line relief valve. This valve is set at a predetermined value and prevents over-pressurization of the circuit. To adjust this set pressure you must remove the cap on the adjusting screw, loosen the lock nut and turn clockwise to increase the setting and counterclockwise to decrease the setting. The hydraulic reservoir should be checked to insure that the fluid is at the correct level. The Diesel engine should be checked for a lubricating oil level (consult the engine operations manual for details). Ensure that the fuel tank has the proper grade of diesel fuel in it and that the fuel shut off underneath the tank is not closed (consult your engine operations manual for details). The powerpack is equipped with manual and electric start. It is necessary to depress the decompression lever before attempting to roll the engine over with the manual starter. Consult the engine manual for the starting procedure. The reel system circuit must be depressurized in order to make up the hose connection to the boom reel. To Begin Operation Always Consult The Engine Operators Manual Before Starting Unit 1. Check lubricating oil in engine Crankcase. 2. Give unit a quick visual to look for potential problems 3. Check Hydraulic reservoir for proper fluid level (maintain full tank) 4. Ensure engine fuel shutoff is in the on position. 5. Ensure fuel tank is full of the proper grade diesel fuel. 6. Locate engine throttle. 7. Locate engine decompression lever (on top of engine) 8. Ensure the reel pressurization selector valve is pulled towards you 9. Move engine throttle to run position 10. Turn key to start engine 11. To Start with Manual starter it is necessary to depress the decompression lever located on the top of the engine. If the engine does not start with the first pull it will be necessary to reset the decompression lever before pulling again. Repeat this step until engine starts. 12. Move engine throttle to full speed. Electric Start / Breather Cap Pressure Gauge / Two Way Selector Valve Fuel Tank Suction Pipe / Throttle Control Reel Direction Control Valve Reel By-Pass Valve / System Pressure Boom Reel 1. The powerpack is directly piped into the reel and should not be taken off of the trailer without making the proper disconnections. 2. The power pack can be started following the included directions. 3. Pressure can now be applied to the reel system by pushing in on the 2 way selector valve. 4. To turn the reel ensure that the bypass valve on the reel is closed. Valve is for emergency use only and must be used in conjunction with the hand brake. 5. The reel can now be moved in either direction by applying pressure to the control valve in either direction 6. To depressurize the reel system simply pull the selector valve knob towards you. This will have removed the entire load from the engine you may now throttle the engine back to stop and turn the key switch off. 7. The engine does not turn off with the key switch so be sure that once you have moved the throttle to stop and the engine quits that you turn the key switch off or your battery will be drained. TRAILER The trailer comes equipped with stabilizers to stabilize the reel when deploying and retrieving boom, a drip pan so all oily waste coming off of the oil boom when retrieving is collected safely, and a hand brake to stop the reel when free wheeling. Before deploying boom the stabilizers should be extended and secured. The trailer also has d-rings to lash the trailer down for additional safety. Hand Brake Stabilizer D-Ring Connecting The Trailer To the Towing Vehicle All connections must be made before towing the trailer. The trailer has a towing hitch, two safety chains, electrical connection and a emergency brake connection. The emergency brake connection is used to slow down the trailer in the event it becomes separated form the towing vehicle. The emergency brake connection is the most important connection aside for the towing hitch itself. Safety Chains Emergency Brake Connection / Electrical Connection The trailer is equipped with a drain pan. This pan has a ball valve at the back end of the trailer. This valve is used to drain oily waste in the tray into the proper collection container.
