Summer Grain Bag Bulletin

For those who are storing last year’s grain through the summer months:

  • Inspect regularly - at least weekly. Especially look on the top of each bag.
  • Look for wildlife/bird damage.
  • Look for hail damage.
  • Patch any visible holes, even small ones.
  • Look over the bag after storms.
  • Don’t overlook the details:
    • Place bags far away from tree lines. Don’t give wildlife any cover near your bags.
    • Routinely inspect and maintain. If you see a hole, patch it.
    • Consider professional pest management.
    • Orient bags north to south to more evenly spread heat; avoid east to west.
    • Consider electrifi ed fencing for some locations.
