GRDC to gather with research partners starting with a national roadshow of workshops to help Australian grain growers be more profitable and sustainable
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is hoping to further enhance communication and collaboration with its research partners, starting with a national roadshow of workshops.
In conjunction with the GRDC, the research community plays a critical role in delivering world class RD&E to help Australian grain growers be more profitable and sustainable.
With a network of 230 organisations that undertake more than 900 research projects, GRDC will be meeting with its research partners across Australia to ensure the GRDC’s specific research priorities deliver maximum value to growers.
GRDC will be hosting meetings with its research partners in capital cities in early May.
GRDC’s Managing Director John Harvey, Executive Manager of Research Programs Brondwen MacLean and Communication Manager Kylie Dunstan will provide an update on what’s changing in GRDC, the progress on delivering the GRDC Strategic Research and Development Plan 2012-17, ‘Your GRDC Working With You’, as well as address research priorities across GRDC’s investment themes.
GRDC Managing Director John Harvey said he looked forward to again engaging with GRDC’s research partners and answering questions and gaining feedback on GRDC’s strategic direction, research portfolio and investment priorities.
“It is important that we have a continual two-way dialogue with our research partners to ensure we are meeting the needs of Australia’s grain growers.
“We need to gain maximum exposure for our research outcomes and GRDC’s investment priorities,” Mr Harvey said.
GRDC’s research partners are also helping to deliver its 5 year Strategic Research and Development Plan for the benefit of Australia’s 22,000 grain growers.
The Strategic Research and Development Plan 2012-17, ‘Your GRDC Working With You’ focuses on the following research areas:
- Meeting Market Requirements;
- Improving Crop Yield;
- Crop Protection;
- Profitable Farming Systems;
- Improving the Farm Resource Base; and
- Building Skills and Capacity.
“The focus of the plan is really about effectively getting the outputs from research into growers’ hands,” Mr Harvey said.
Mr Harvey said he was looking forward to the Victorian event.
“I am pleased that so many research partners and other stakeholders have already said they will join me for a briefing in Melbourne,” he said.
Roadshow dates:
- Melbourne: Thursday 1 May 2014
- Brisbane: Friday 2 May 2014
- Perth: Tuesday 6 May 2014
