Healthy Soil Can Become Your Farm’s Biggest Asset. Learn How at SFA’s ‘Dirt Rich’
Understanding how to measure and build soil health requires a hands-on approach, and SFA’s upcoming “Dirt Rich: Building Soil Health Experts” workshops offer farmers and ag professionals a chance to do just that while digging deeper into soil health opportunities, challenges and monitoring.
In 2018, two separate “Dirt Rich” events are scheduled: Aug. 28 in Red Lake Falls and Aug. 29 in Lake Park. Each consists of a morning classroom portion followed by an afternoon of discussion and analysis in the field at an area farm. Speakers at each include: Justin Morris, NRCS regional soil health specialist; Kent Solberg, SFA livestock & grazing specialist; and Jeff Duchene, NRCS grazing specialist.
Each day’s program will include discussions on soil health principles, cover crop species selection, interpreting Haney Test results, an overview of each farm operation, a rainfall simulator, fencing discussion, an overview of cover seeding and equipment, and much more.
Cost is $20/person and includes lunch and coffee. Registration begins at 8:30 with program to follow at 9; program ends at 3:30 p.m. each day.
