New team at SPAA to build on precision agriculture drive
We are thrilled to announce two new appointments with Ms Amanda Woods as the association’s new PA Development Officer and Ms Joanne Pech as its new Event Co-ordinator.
SPAA Executive officer Dr Nicole Dimos said, “These exciting positions established by SPAA are the result of having to meet the demands of the industry. We are seeing tremendous growth in PA nationally, and this opportunity requires SPAA to revisit its communication and extension strategy; from increasing our online presence, to hosting more frequent webinars and training and even more events across Australia as more and more industries are realising the benefits of PA”.
Ms Woods hails from Sunbury, VIC, and comes to the organisation with experience and enthusiasm in online engagement. Amanda Woods is an educator in the area of science and technology. She has a science degree with Honours and 10 years experience working in project and change management and describes herself as a lifestyle farmer / tree changer. She has recently joined the SPAA team as a Development Officer, responsible for social media / marketing where we will see technical PA presented in a powerful and emotive way and engagement and participation with farmers and industry.
You can connect with Amanda and SPAA on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter @SPAA_DO, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and SlideShare.
Ms Woods said “I’m looking forward to sharing my ideas to increase the adoption of PA across Australia and internationally. I’ll be working hard to showcase how technology informs better decision making to save time and money. Working with key influencers, farmers, industry, and sponsors, I aim to ensure SPAA continues to provide relevant, easily accessible and up – to – date information.”
Ms Pech, now based in Adelaide, was born and raised in the Riverland of South Australia on a mixed fruit growing property. Joanne has worked in agriculture for much of her career, specifically research projects in viticulture, irrigation, natural resource management, and salinity where she gained valuable skills in identifying industry issues, working with industry to deliver relevant information, as well as reporting and presenting outcomes to wider audiences.
Ms Pech will be busy on the road organising events across Australia advocating the latest information available in precision agriculture (PA) and delivering relevant and timely information to landholders and industry across the range of agricultural commodities.
Ms Pech said “I’m excited to take on the role. Promoting PA to a wider audience will be a challenge, but an important one to showcase that SPAA is a national group with the interests of all agricultural industries. I’m looking forward to meeting many farmers as SPAA returns to many locations and ventures to new regions across Australia to promote PA through events and workshops”.
“Both new team members are extremely passionate in accepting the roles and are looking forward to working on promoting the benefits of precision agriculture (PA) and the SPAA brand and will be of a great asset to the organisation” said Nicole. These hands on roles will encompass relationship building and servicing, growing the membership base, marketing co-ordination to increase the national branding of SPAA.
