Aquaculture production accounts for 30, 000 mt (19%) of fish supply in Zambia, capture fisheries supplies 75,000 mt (47%) and 55,000 mt (34%) from imports (as at 2015). Zambia’s fisheries produce approximately 70,000 metric tons of fish per year, amounting to over 3% of Zambia’s GDP. Over 85% of this production comes from captured fisheries and over 10% from the new implementation of aquaculture.
Aquaculture production in Zambia has been on a positive growth path showing a steady increase in aquaculture production as compared to a stagnation in the quantities of capture fisheries. With an abundance of natural waters and land, potential growth of the aquaculture sector in Zambia remains massive. The numerous challenges of quality feed and fingerlings provide a business opportunity for probable investment.

Addressing the needs of farmers in Zambia, at this year's edition of Agritech Expo Zambia, we're excited to announce the launch of the very first Aquaculture showcase. Not only will you be able to get to view technologies and products available to farmers who wish to pursue aquaculture in their farming practices, but you will also get to sit in on a free-to-attend workshop run by the Aquaculture Development Association of Zambia (ADAZ).
