Iowa State Gets the Latest Grain Sensor Technology

Thirty non-contact radar level sensors and BinCloud® software will be integrated into Iowa State`s new engineering and feed technology complex for monitoring grain bin levels

“This equipment lets students learn the new ways that automation will transform agriculture and our worldwide food supply," said Scott Hudson of BinMaster. "Many students who major or minor in feed technology grew up on farms. The equipment we supply shows them they can track grain bin levels without climbing."

BinMaster donated 25 NCR-80 radars, 41 capacitance probes, 17 rotary indicators, and six 3DLevelScanners. BinMaster is donating the equipment to Iowa State, following in the footsteps of other private donors helping to build the $21.2 million facility. The data received from the continuous radar and 3D sensors will feed directly into BinCloud software.

"BinCloud puts grain inventory information on a phone, exactly what students want," added Hudson. “Keeping students engaged with the latest technology supports Iowa State’s vision of developing a local labor pool for the future.”
