The Future of Farming

Jan. 30, 2025

January is always a busy time, especially for farmers. It’s a month filled with essential maintenance tasks: hedging, tree planting, clearing ditches, and ensuring drainage systems are in top shape. Livestock farmers also bring their sheep indoors to protect them from harsh winter weather and carry out pregnancy scanning. But January is also a time for innovation and connection, particularly at LAMMA, the UK’s leading agricultural machinery and technology show.

Overall, LAMMA was an incredible opportunity to connect with forward-thinking farmers and businesses driving innovation in agriculture. With solutions designed to make farming more efficient, precise, and productive, Datum Electronics is proud to play a part in shaping the future of farming.

From field to silo, we’re committed to helping farmers deliver crops to shop shelves faster, smarter, and more sustainably.

Our products are developed to thrive in tough agricultural environments. At LAMMA, we had some fascinating discussions about the challenges farmers face and how our robust systems are built to endure the demands of modern farming. It was also a pleasure to hear from Kaleb Cooper, the farming champion and star of Clarkson’s Farm, who gave an inspiring talk on one of the main stages.

While the agricultural sector is no stranger to us, LAMMA was a brilliant opportunity to highlight the impact our innovative products are having on farms across the UK and beyond. For instance, our tractor PTO (Power Take-Off) monitoring system has become a game-changer for farmers and researchers alike.

This system forms part of our smart farming solutions, offering precision monitoring of torque, shaft speed, and transmitted power from standard PTO shafts. These accurate measurements are crucial for analysing tractor transmission performance and identifying areas where efficiency can be improved, ultimately helping farmers save time, energy, and money.

Held at Birmingham’s NEC, LAMMA connects farmers across the agricultural spectrum with pioneering companies offering cutting-edge products. This year, it provided an exciting platform for Jon and Charlie, to engage with UK farmers and showcase how Datum Electronics is contributing to the future of farming with our advanced solutions.
