Acer negundo (Boxedler)

SHARE
Habit: Boxelder, or Ash-Leafed Maple, is a mid-sized understory tree native to Eastern North America. It is the only compound leafed native maple. Unfortunately Boxedler has a bad reputation as a short lived tree that breaks easily in storms and wind. However, if pruned and managed while young it can grow into a quite handsome rounded tree with spreading branches.

Color: Young/new branches are often an attractive green color. One of the earliest maples to turn color (yellow) in the fall.

Culture: Will survive where many other trees and plants will perish- prefers well drained moist soils but tolerates dry conditions. Very adaptable and easy to transplant. Grows very quickly especially when young.
