Home n’ DryModel Alkagrain - Alkalising Feed Pellets

SHARE

Alkagrain is produced by simply mixing the unique alkalising feed pellets (Home n’ Dry®) at a minimum application rate of 30kg/tonne, with ripe, fully mature cereal grain and sheeting. This can be done at harvest or throughout the year. The grain can be rolled or crimped at the time of treating, or before feed-out. The resultant alkaline, high starch feed material with added protein allows greater use of cereals in the diets for dairy cows, beef, sheep and goats.

Support Rumen Function

Easy to use in a ONE-STEP APPLICATION – once in contact with moisture, Home n’ Dry® pellets release ammonia into the subject crop or feed, destroying microbes, moulds and some mycotoxins.

This allows either:

  • A reduction in concentrate fed for the same performance
  • Higher production from the same weight of concentrate
  • Safely allowing higher feed rates for higher performance

In effect, we are utilising protein that would be bought in the winter to conserve and enhance the grain during storage.

  • Lower final cost than other methods of grain storage and treatment
  • Increased protein level to 14-15% Crude Protein, or more as required
Producing Alkagrain®

Alkagrain® is produced by mixing Home n’ Dry® pellets with the combinable ready cereal crop, quickly releasing ammonia to produce an alkaline, stable grain with increased protein content.

  • Ensure the grain is fully mature before harvest.
  • Make sure that the bags are knocked before use.
  • Extra Home n’ Dry® on the top of the clamp will protect against moisture under the sheet.
  • Don’t spray off an under ripe crop.
  • Don’t consolidate the clamp, as the ammonia gas needs to circulate throughout the clamp.
  • Don’t harvest any green material – sugars present will cause an adverse reaction in the clamp.

  • Maximise crop utilisation, as the mature grain has optimum starch levels
  • The alkalinity helps buffer rumen pH and safely increase cereal content of the diet
  • Simple production method makes Alkagrain® an attractive alternative to Soda Grain
  • Reduce the risk of Sub Acute Ruminal Acidosis (SARA)
  • Increased grain protein levels allow a reduction of bought in protein costs
  • Cost effective supply of both starch and protein together
  • No drying costs are required
  • A clean, dry store is required with plastic to seal the sides and top.
  • Rolled Grain Option – Mix the whole grain with the correct quantity of Home n’ Dry throughly before it goes through the crimper / roller.
  • Whole Grain Options – Mix the whole grain with the correct quantity of Home n’ Dry throughly and roll before feed out.
  • Push into store, sheet and seal away from rain and water.
  • Lightly weigh down the sheet.
  • Leave for a minimum of 2 weeks before opening.
  • Once opened protect the open face from long exposure to rain.
