BT NOW is an aqueous, biological insecticide that utilizes the Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kurstaki bacteria to offer broad spectrum control of lepidoptera populations on a wide variety of crops. Target insects are unable to feed within hours of consuming BT NOW, ending their crop predacity which leads to death from starvation within days.

BT NOW’s MODE OF ACTION

The Bacillus thuringiensis ssp. kurstaki (Btk) bacteria found in BT NOW contains insecticidal endotoxins called “Cry toxins”. These toxins bind to specific receptors in the insect’s gut which immediately disrupts and paralyzes certain digestive functions. While the insect larvae will not immediately die from these spores and toxins, plant tissue will be protected from damage as the pest halts all feeding within minutes. Insect death occurs 2-5 days later, as the activated toxins disrupt membrane integrity in the midgut leading to a break down allowing Bt spores to enter the body, proliferate, and kill the pest.

HOW SHOULD BT NOW BE USED?

For optimal results, employ early scouting programs to identify target pest infestations is recommended for best application timings. Product is most effective during the active feeding stages of larvae. Apply at first signs of feeding or when scouting program identifies pest presence. Ensure thorough coverage of foliage, as product must be consumed by pest. Repeat applications when necessary to maintain control.
