Sinteleia - Model DA -Electronic Instruments for DA Index Measuring
Sinteleia srl designs and manufactures under exclusive license of “Alma Mater Studiorum-Università di Bologna” a wide range of portable meters eand sensors for DA Index® measuring known as «DA-Meter®». The DA Index is an index of the state of maturation (ripeness) of the fruit based on the difference of absorbance at two wavelenghts: one at which has the maximum absorption by chlorophyll-type and a second, used as a reference, chosen to have the minimum change in absorbance during the whole period of fruit ripening.
The DA Index**is proportional to the amount of chlorophyll present in the fruit. Since this tends to fall off during ripening process, it will tend to decrease over time, reaching values close to zero for fruits already overly ripe for commercial use.
The reference values for harvesting and consumption vary from species to species, the technology is actually available for pears, apples, plums, apricoats, peaches, cherries and kiwifruits. Trials for many other cultivars are ongoing.
