Elmet EOOD is a Bulgarian company, owner of Fish Farm "Clarias". The farm was established in 2012 for cultivation of African catfish /Clarias gariepinus/ in Recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

RAS systems are modern systems that are located in a confined space, thus avoiding the traditional outdoor fish farming method in pools and dams. We launched this venture in 2012 alongside with the accompanying fish processing units, that are already built and functioning. Our farms are located in the area of Panagyurishte municipality and have an annual production capacity of 450 tons live fish.

Fish farm "Clarias" exports part of its African catfish production in Austria, Germany and France. Furthermore, the company develops a strong distribution network in Bulgaria, stimulating the domestic economy and developing the internal market. At present, this type of fish is highly demanded in Europe. Culinary experts share the opinion that, in terms of flavor the African catfish meat successfully competes with sturgeon, salmon and other types of fish with highly valued flavors. Its tender white meat is easy to prepare, without smell and small bones, which makes it an appropriate ingredient for the menu of children and babies.

African catfish, considered as fish delicacy, is a freshwater fish. Its meat belongs to the group of dietary foods - rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids, it contains an optimal combination of proteins, fats and amino acids and is also a reliable source of vitamins: A (50.0 IU), C ) and D (500 IU), while vitamins E and K are completely absent. The raw catfish is a good source of minerals - calcium (14.0 mg), magnesium (23.0 mg), potassium (358 mg) and sodium (43.0 mg), omega-3 (535 mg) and omega-6 fatty acids (101 mg).

Clarias gariepinus is a fish with an extremely varied amino acid composition, important for the normal functioning of the body, with good amounts of the following amino acids: leucine, lysine, alanine, arginine, asparagine and glutamic acid. The content of the beneficial substances differs depending on the preferred way of preparation and consumption. Fish farm "Clarias" has own distribution fleet with advanced refrigeration systems for transporting live, chilled and frozen fish.
