Rig mats are different than access mats and are manufactured using a 3-rail or 4-rail steel frame configuration with cross beams and wooden inserts. This design allows rig mat users to transfer and set heavier loads and machinery. Traditional 3-ply bolted wooden access mats don’t have the strength or durability that rig mats have, which makes them inadequate for heavy-duty applications.
