Nutria Hellas - Heat Antistress
NUTRIA HELLAS, serving the goal of efficient operation, in combination with the provision of original, scientifically advanced and vital services, to its customers, livestock breeders, geotechnicians and distributors of livestock supplies, presents the new product of HEAT PROTECTANT, for the contribution to the treatment of thermal stress- stress and its consequences in the production and hygiene of milk producers, especially animals with a priority of cows. HEAT PROTECTANT is a new formula based on potassium homeostasis, balancing rumen pH, and increasing the energy content of the diet in order to minimize the negative consequences of ruminants during high and extreme temperatures in the summer months.
It contains high bioavailability potassium carbonate, bioactive yeast ( Saccharomyces cerevisiae) , calcium propionate, high quality protected vegetable fat, rich in palmitic acid and essential oils.
Cows leave the thermoneutral zone when the mercury exceeds 22 ° C and the humidity exceeds 45% and enter a state of heat stress. Even after 26 o C, the drop in the amount of dry matter consumed and as a consequence the drop in milk production is evident.
A state of thermal stress due to the disruption of the body`s homeostasis causes many problems:
- The rate of breathing and panting increases, resulting in an increase in the maintenance needs of the animal by 10% and the increased rate of breathing creates more oxygen free radicals (ROS), causing oxidative stress.
- Reduction in rumination time (reduction in exploitation factor)
- Decreased potassium in the blood
- The reduced intake of dry matter is often done against roughage (when possible) therefore the ratio of roughage to concentrate changes as well as the regulatory capacity of the rumen with possible result in acidosis.
- The increased body temperature of cows is a deterrent from sitting in their resting positions and standing for long hours overwhelmingly increases the rate of lameness (lameness).
- In cows that are in the first phase of the lactation period, the reduced intake of dry matter in relation to the negative energy balance may result in ketosis.
Because of the above, an American study carried out in Ohio in 2003 points out that the economic effects of heat stress amount to 142 euros/cow/year even in barn facilities with an adequate ventilation system.
The HEAT PROTECTANT:
- It regulates the homeostasis of potassium in the body
- It balances the pH of the rumen resulting in an increase in the food conversion factor so that the body`s needs in nutrients are covered even when food intake is reduced
- Increases the energy content of the food with high quality vegetable fat which immediately releases energy helping to prevent ketosis
- By reducing the effects of heat stress it ensures persistence in milk production or body weight deposition
