I’d worked for five years as a scuba diving instructor, and was fortunate enough to live on sun-kissed beaches of some of the most beautiful places on Earth. Penang Island, Malaysia. Ko Phi Phi Le, Thailand. The coast of Cancun, Mexico. These spots are true paradises.

But on my travels I witnessed first-hand the destruction our broken food production system is wrecking on our natural world.

One day I decided I couldn’t keep watching. I had to intervene.

I quit my job as a scuba diving instructor and decided to leverage my background in Environmental Engineering to fulfil what had become my life’s mission: to develop a more efficient and sustainable way to feed the world.

Our mission is to restore the natural world by revolutionising the way we feed animals. Our planet is being trashed to produce enough protein to feed animals. Oceans are plundered for fishmeal and rainforests destroyed to grow soy. But insects — a natural part of many animals’ diets — have a far smaller ecological footprint. Using insects as a protein source would enable intensively farmed areas to return to the wild.

We take local food waste — rejected supermarket fruit and vegetables, brewer’s grains and coffee grounds — and feed it to our insects, which eat the waste and convert it to protein.
