Plant Supports, Canes & Stakes

SHARE

Whether you need to support a ‘floppy’ perennial plant as it grows or secure a new tree when planted, we have a support solution for you. We offer a wide range of custom supports to suit most applications & budgets. If you need to build a runner bean cage etc we offer bamboo canes sold individually rather than in packs like most other retailers. This means that you can buy exactly the amount that you need without having left overs. For something with more longevity, we also have the plastic coated alluminium alternative.

When it comes to perennials or flowering plants we have the types of supports that are put in place before the plant becomes too big. This allows the plant to grow through the support. These are available in basic forms or if you prefer something more sturdy & decorative, there is a selection from Tom Chambers which are plastic coated steel, in a number of designs. Some of these supports are designed to be retro fit so that they can be put in place once the plant has grown. Available in a selection of sizes so some can even be used to correct shrubs as many of these can ‘flop’ when in heavy flower, hydrangeas are a good example.

For larger shrubs & trees there is a range of hardwood stakes. These are long lasting & ideal for initial support required to prevent ‘root rock’ when a new tree is planted. A new tree should have its root system secure whilst its root system expands to take grip of surrounding soils. Wind rocking the plant excessively can constantly break these new fresh roots as they develop. Stakes also proove useful in other areas of garden DIY including making a temporary prop for a wonky fence panel.

Despite not providing fencing we do offer a few basic trellis options. We strive to maintain a selection of wooden fixed format trellis in two or three sizes plus a range of expandable trellis in wood or hazel alongside a small selection of obelisks. These are ideal solutions for growing climbing plants against a fence panel, brick wall or in containers. You can even create a tall focal point in the middle of a border by growing a climber up a well placed obelisk.

As well as the more structrual items above, we supply plenty of the solutions that you may need for securing the plants to whatever support that you choose. Strings, wires, plant ties etc are located in our store along with many other garden sundries.
