Model Tensilkut II - Precision Milling Machine
The Tensilkut II is a precision milling machine designed specifically for machining flat tensile samples from metals and non-metallic materials. Tensilkut machined specimens are free of induced heat or cold working distortion, and are accurate to within +.0005”. A sample can be machined in a few minutes by lab technicians with no previous machining experience. For a Youtube video of the Tensilkut II in operation click here
The Tensilkut II is an updated version of the original Tensilkut machine, developed in response to our customers` requests for an enhanced, yet still manually operated, economical way to prepare tensile bars and other samples from metals and plastics for use in the universal testing machine.
The Tensilkut II is an enclosed machine which includes integral misting, chip removal and motor speed regulation units. The chip shield around the control head protects the area around the unit from debris, while the sound deadening package absorbs much of the noise of the unit. A series of power switches located on the front of the panel enables the operator to easily access those accessories desired, while the emergency stop switch located on the machine cuts power to all systems simultaneously.
For added safety, the Tensilkut II is equipped with a foot-control ("dead-man`s") switch; the Tensilbit will not rotate unless the operator depresses it. As with the Tensilkut I, the Tensilkut II is accurate to within +.0005" when preparing specimens with a Tensilkut master template and Tensilbit.
Click the video to the right to see the Tensilkut II, preparing specimens from fiber filled plastics; the strips have previously been cut from plaques using the Tensilsaw. The Tensilkut II with ASTM D638 Type I template prepares these specimens in about 3 minutes each; this shows two specimens being cut by the Tensilkut II with a Tensilbit.
Standard Master Templates are available for a wide variety of specimens in accordance with ASTM standards, including for tensile test bars, flexural samples, and compression specimens. Should these not be exactly what you’re looking for, we can custom fabricate a Master Template for you.
With the 10-80 series Tensilkut II machines, tensile samples can be machined from ferrous and non-ferrous metals and a wide range of plastic and non-metallic materials. The configuration of the specimen is traced from precision master templates to achieve contour duplication within +.001”. The test strip is clamped in the template, which is manually adjusted using the Tensilkut micrometer control.
The specific depth of individual machining cuts is dependent upon the machineability and gauge of the material being cut. Relatively deep cuts are used for roughing the sample to shape, whereas extremely light (.0005” to .001” deep) cuts comprise the finishing
passes. When the sample is machined to its finished gauge width, the micrometer dial reaches a stop to automatically prevent further machining of the specimen. The top template guide bar is
undersized in relation to the finished test specimen, thereby preventing the template from making contact with the Tensilbit.
The Tensilkut II series is equipped with a 3-1/4HP, 15 amp, 115 Volt motor; 220V models include a step-down transformer. All models include a motor speed regulator and mist coolant system, both of which contribute to an improved surface finish on most materials. The Tensilvac chip reduction system is also standard on these machines. The plexiglass chip shield around the control head contains those chips which escape the Tensilvac.
A noise reduction lining inside thelower cabinet significantly diminishes the volume of the motor. Front mounted switches, anemergency stop switch and a foot control switch are included in the operator safety, comfort and convenience innovations in this series.
