- Model SM - Soil Moisture Sensor

This sensor responds to changes in soil moisture. Once placed in soil, it exchanges water with the surrounding soil, staying in equilibrium with it. As the soil dries, water is removed from the sensor and the resistance measurement increases. When soil gets wet, the resistance lowers. This is due to the fact that soil water is an electrical conductor.

This soil moisture sensor is designed to be a permanent sensor and is made with high corrosion resistant stainless steel electrodes. It will not dissolve over time and is not affected by freezing temperatures. It is extremely easy to install, and requires no maintenance.
