Perpetual trees to replace fossil fuel and produce bio-protein. Deforestation for agriculture and the transport sector are the largest contributors to GHG emissions and thus climate change. The use of perpetual trees to reforest cattle land to produce oil and bio-protein has a quadruple impact on climate change, biodiversity and local communities.
Of all the non-food-land crops that produce oil and protein, we found the Pongamia tree to be best performing for reforestation purposes in South America. Together with our genetic partners, we are continuously developing and planting our locally adapted elite varieties of Pongamia trees.
Reforestation with Pongamia in silvopasture systems ensures a categorization as low indirect land-use change (ILUC).
