Dragon Machinery Blue Diamond - Shavings Machine for Animal Bedding
The Blue Diamond Shavings Machine, manufactured by Dragon Machinery Ltd in the UK, is designed for the efficient production of high-quality shavings from round logs, aimed at animal and poultry bedding purposes. It operates at capacities of 1 to 6 tonnes per hour, depending on the model, and is available in various sizes with options for twin and single logbox chain drive, alongside Mini and Mini Max hydraulically driven variants. The machine features log holding boxes that traverse cutterheads to plane logs into shavings, with specifications influenced by knife settings, log speed, and material condition. Innovative design elements include a semi-automatic belt tensioning system and a new blade setting system. Larger models incorporate differential gearboxes and heavy roller chains to optimize log box movement. Log loading is managed through manual or automatic systems, with output shavings ready for collection via conveyors or extraction systems.

The Blue Diamond shavers are available in a range of sizes with twin and single logbox chain drive versions and Mini/Mini Max hydraulically driven options
The BLUE DIAMOND Shavings Machine comprises one or two log holding boxes which travel back and forth over the top of the cutterheads, one or two under each box depending on model. Shavings are produced by the planing of the logs; the specification of the shavings being influenced by the speed of the log box and the setting of the knives in the cutterhead rotors as well as by the species and condition of the logs. The Blue Diamond shavers now incorporate a semi-automatic belt tensioning system on the rotor motors and a new, innovative blade setting system.
The shavings are discharged below the cutterheads, where they are ready to be collected and removed by means of a discharge conveyor or air extraction, either of which can be supplied. In the larger chain driven models the log holding boxes are driven through a differential gearbox linked to heavy roller chains attached with shock absorbing cushion assembly to ensure smooth travel. The log holding boxes are most commonly loaded from a central position with an operator loading the logs from a log haul chain or a central log deck. Fully automatic log loading systems can also be provided.
