Construction

A Venlo type greenhouse is fairly standardized yet a very sophisticated design.  It provides a maximum clear area for plant cultivation, the least amount of obstruction for incoming light and at the same time exhibits excellent structural strength. Structural strength is not only dependent on materials used but also how the construction is executed.

Specialized equipment, precision of the highest degree is required. We use laser instruments for alignment of the supporting columns and to make  adjustments should it be necessary. Our assembly crew is composed of talented tradesmen with decades of experience constructing Venlo type greenhouses.

Glazing

There are different types of covering materials with different properties that can be used. Associated cost, longevity and besides the obvious protection from external conditions such as weather and pests, considerations should involve solar radiation. Making the right choice here is important because it will affect not only how much light will be available  but the actual range of the transmitted solar radiation spectrum.  The infrared portion of the spectrum is responsible for producing heat during the day. Depending on the type of material the rate of absorption may be different and therefore so is  the heating effect. This value  coupled with its insulation characteristics at night will factor into climate management which in turn affect overall cost of operation.

Despite developments aimed at providing alternatives glass still remains the ideal covering material for Venlo type greenhouses for its inherent properties of reflection –absorbence – transmission ratios. At Varnet we use 4 mm low iron tempered horticultural glass. Tempering improves glass to be up to 6 times stronger and  very safe making it a good choce for covering the roof. It also has excellent values of thermal insulation and outstanding clarity. Isolation is provided   by EPDM rubber which is UV, heat and weather resistant for a long lifespan. On first trusses from the gables and first bays from the side walls we use ½ and ¼ sizes of glass for better wind resistance.
