The objective of the MSTA scheme provides: Benchmarking, monitoring and assessment of competence of technicians and others in the milking equipment sector. Encouragement and recognition for employers, technicians and other employees who commit to continual professional development in pursuit of technical support excellence. MSTA has been developed by the Milking Equipment Association (MEA), the only independent organisation representing the interests of milking equipment manufacturers, distributors, installers and suppliers.

There are four categories of registered Milking System Technicians.

MSTA (Enrolled Technician) – On-line MSTA self registration for apprentices on recognised programmes and other New Entrants to the industry.

MSTA Category 2 (Dairy Technician) – Basic working dairy technician, trained to work safely with due regard to the well-being of self, the animals milked and the operators of the equipment.

MSTA Category 3 (Dairy Engineering Technician) – Skilled and experienced technician capable of supervising others and/or team leading.

MSTA Category 4 (Master Dairy Engineering Technician) – A professional technician having a proven and assessed track record of specialist technical ability/experience together with mentoring and/or management skills.

Relevant Qualifications – For those experienced technicians applying to register on the scheme for the first time, there is an assessment process based on relevant qualification(s). If successful, relevant industry qualification gains access to MSTA Category 2.
