Erwin Nijssen from Grashoek in The Netherlands runs five houses for broilers.
All five houses lie side by side so in principle the production figures should be identical when looking at a two year production cycle. But they are not, Erwin Nijssen says.

The weight of the birds from the DACS shed is always significantly higher and this shed has delivered me the best production figures ever. There is always a good smell in the house, the litter stays dry and the heating costs are much lower in the DACS house than in the other four houses, Erwin Nijssen says.

I am convinced that the functionality of the ventilation system is what keeps the birds in excellent condition and what makes the better overall performance in this particular house. No doubt about that, Erwin Nijssen says.

Erwin Nijssen from Grashoek in The Netherlands has five poultry houses and he has virtually been working with poultry ever since he started walking. Truly a very skilled poultry farmer, who knows the industry inside out.

Significantly different data
I was puzzled about the performance in my newly built poultry house, where I have installed a DACS ventilation system. The DACS system is quite different in functionality from the other systems, and I am convinced this is the reason why I see significantly different data from this house. All five houses lie side by side, the feeding and watering systems are identical in all five houses, so nothing else but the ventilation system can make this difference, Erwin says.

Lower heating cost
In the DACS house the FCR has always been better ever since I started production in this house in 2007. This house constantly deliver the best production figures. In addition to this, the heating costs are much lower in the DACS house Erwin notes. To support the statement Erwin shows data from 2011. These data show the heating costs for each of the five houses and with an average heat consumption of 1,5 euro cent/bird, the savings on heating in the DACS house is significant.

Better overall performance
The savings in heating have to do with the functionality of the ventilation system from DACS. The law of physics still rules and since warm air is lighter than cold air, the warmest air accumulates under the roof. This warm air is what the DACS system brings down to the birds and that is why my heating cost in the DACS house is so low. To this the constant movement of air in the bird zone keeps the litter dry and brings oxygen to the birds. I am convinced that the functionality of the system is what keeps the litter in optimum condition and what makes the better overall performance in this particular house. In the DACS house the production figures are in top. What more can one ask for!
