About Us
Agresource provides services in all areas of beneficial utilization with particular emphasis on:
Land Application
Utilization of organic residuals on crop and pastureland is a cost effective approach for the recycling of valuable nutrients.
Land application provides nutrients and organic matter necessary to rebuild depleted soils and boost crop yields at virtually no cost to the farmer. This program thus enables small family farms to continue to keep land productive and maintain farmland as productive open space.
Agresource has developed a network of farm cooperators who have suitable cropland for Beneficial Use programs. Farmers participate in various ways ranging from spreading materials using their own equipment or simply making fields available for application by trained operators employed by Agresource.
Compost Facility Operations
Agresource provides staff and equipment for the operation of composting facilities. Since 1989, Agresource has worked in partnership with the Town of Ipswich to develop a composting facility for municipal biosolids amended with leaf and yard wastes. This composting facility is located at a decommissioned missile tracking base in the Town of Ipswich and is operated by Agresource. Tthe facility has been expanded to serve the needs of four other towns in the region.
Agresource also provides operators and equipment to compost leaf and yard wastes at various municipal sites in the greater Boston area. Agresource's activities at these sites include windrow turning, compost screening, and marketing of the finished product.
Compost and Soil Screening Services
Agresource provides compost and soil screening services for municipalities and private companies. Screening of compost and soil is an important and necessary step to transform unprocessed materials into desirable products. Agresource specializes in making custom soils that meet special project requirements often at the landscape project site where it is being used to reduce costs. Agresource uses recycled products and on-site soils to the maximum as part of its sustainable approach.
Compost Marketing Services
Unlike soil that is often placed and used as is for planting, compost requires an understanding as to when it is ready before it can be mixed into soil. Moreover, the right type of compost must be used at appropriate rates depending on the application. As a result, marketing compost requires a unique set of qualifications. Agresource understands compost and how to market it to the green industry. Agresource has developed a broad and diverse customer base throughout the Northeast, including garden centers, landscape contractors, golf courses, and topsoil blenders. Agresource works with both municipalities and private compost operations to market compost with the goals of not only maximizing the value of the compost but also ensuring that compost moves out into the market place in a timely manner.
Consulting Services
Agresource staff members are available as consultants to provide expert technical assistance. Practical experience with composting and compost utilization provide a unique perspective to help solve problems. Specific areas of expertise include the use of biofilters for odor control, operator training, and compost marketing.
