The farm

The farm consists of 180 acres located in the Lagan valley, two miles outside the village of Newtowncunningham, Co Donegal in Ireland. A further 200 acres has been added to the farm on long term lease to increase its capacity. Each year around 100 acres are used for the production of spring barley which is stored on the farm and sold throughout the winter months. The farms sheep flock consists of 300 commercial ewes made up form a mixture of Texel, Suffolk and Charollais breeds, we usually purchase around 600 store lambs for finishing each season. New on the farm in 2012 we have started a Charollais pedigree flock which we will be looking to show throughout the year ahead.

Agricare

Agricare was started by Jim Devenney 20 years ago with the primary aim of providing an honest and reliable service to the farming community specialising in seeds, fertilizers and agri-retail products such as crop protection to local farmers. We also provide a personal crop management service, where you have you crop reviewed and accessed by our crop experts and relevant advice given. On a national scale we import and distribute the Glendale livestock system for livestock farmers throughout Ireland.

Founders

Gareth Devenney graduated from Green mount Agricultural College in 1996 before starting full time work on the family farm. In 2006 he spent a year travelling through Western Australia working on various farms ranging from 20,000 acre grain farms to 4000 sheep farms before returning to take over the family farm and bringing alot of ideas back with him. He continues to work the family farm but has also branched out into Agricare where his primary focus was selling the Glendale livestock system which he helped introduce into Ireland. Gareth looks after sales and product management to ensure that farmflo meets real farming needs.

Jason Devenney grew up working on the family farm before heading to London to study IT, he graduated from Kingston University in 2000 and has worked in IT ever since starting as a software developer working for Walt Disney, Global Aerospace in the UK, US and Canada before going on to co-found a technology start up Siondo, the first UK startup invited into the Microsoft Bizspark program and launched in UK, US, China and India. He exited Siondo in 2010 and joined SAS implementing Public Security and Intelligence solutions to police forces and intelligence agencies across the Globe. Jason looks after all technical aspects in farmflo including product development.
