About Us
De Jong Equipment Co., Inc. began on February 20, 1982 by a purchase by Bill and Pat De Jong. An existing farm equipment dealeriship and real estate was bought from Stolzenbach Implement at its Beecher, IL location. In late 1987, the main building acquired new offices. DJE soon turned into a full-line dealership. In early 2010, Nathan Dykstra, Bill & Pat's son-in-law joined the dealership, assisting the company's development.
The initial company originally had just two employees and a part-time secretary. As the business grew, a full time parts-manager was added. The shop had developed into a respected and knowledgeable repair center in the area by '87. Later that year, a formal business office was added onto the main building to function as a secretarial office. During the same year, we also remodeled the parts area, more than tripling the display area for the department.
The year 1988 additionally saw change and growth. An overhead crane system installation in the shop, gave the service department the ability to tackle many heavy weight jobs requiring lifting capability. We experienced a severe drought in the same year in our area of the country. Because of its impact on DJE, we began a rental business to diversify into more non-agricultural markets. This proved to be a good decision, and, with the merger of Ford & New Holland at this time, DJE also grew to a full line dealership, complete with a tractor line.
The early nineties were a time of steady growth for DJE both in sales, parts, and service work. We designed a temporary fix for needed parts storage by opening up the attic above the parts department for excess parts. We continually sensed a need for additional room both in sales, parts, and the shop. Plans enfolded in late 1997 to add on to the north and west of the entire main building area. After securing permits, we added approximately 55% more square footage to the entire building. This addition provided a second overhead crane in the shop, a parts receiving and storage area, and three new offices on the north end of the show area. This new addition further gave us a dedicated show room area for our sales department items such as zero-turn mowers, Honda generators, and water pumps.
A large jib crane installation completed overhead lift capability for the remainder of the service work area in 2005.
Throughout the course of DJE company history, a dedicated staff of employees was always the backbone of the dealership. These team members provided the foundation required for a successful organization. Not enough can be said as these key factors lay out our business strength.
As a mature company of some 31+ years, DJE must continue to look to the future while maintaining our current core model strengths. We are a niche company with our foundation of customers as the small company (mom & pop) who are landscapers, farmers, and contractors as well as the sundowner needing our knowledge in the light equipment business. We furthermore are well known for our expertise in the hay making equipment business. We supply balers, rakes, tedders, as well as attachments for this industry. We are also leaders in the vertical tillage farming practice with Great Plains products. Many of our customers additionally are brought in word of mouth because of our parts and service reputation. And more, our rental business is unique, well-known, and a growth, bringing new accounts and satisfied customers each year.
DJE offers a full line of New Holland agricultural and construction equipment along with service and parts. We further offer popular short lines of equipment such as Grasshopper, Kuhns accumulators, Kuhn Knight, Land Pride, Great Plains, and Woods.
As a service-orientated business, the customer ultimately gives us the direction and products we must provide. Our goal is to continue to provide solid sales support with our staff which has a high level of service experience. We believe a moderate stable growth with solid customer service backup to be the key to our long-term success. Although our people and unique products have made the dealership growth strides steady, our customers are the main reason for our success. Many of these customers share relationships with the dealership which span through generations. We are thankful for these relationships.
