A convenient, cow-side test to diagnose subclinical ketosis (SCK) is available for U.S. dairies. Keto-Test is a simple milk-dip test strip that changes color in the presence of abnormally high concentrations of circulating ketone bodies, which indicates the presence of subclinical ketosis.¹  Subclinical ketosis typically occurs in early lactation when cows are in negative energy balance. An estimated 15% of cows in U.S. dairy herds have ketosis or subclinical ketosis.² The cost of a single case of subclinical ketosis (SCK) is estimated to be $78.³
