At EnviroLogix, we believe in making a positive impact on our community. Our employees work to make the world a better place every day, and we support their efforts both locally and globally. Offering paid volunteer time means our employees are out giving their time and energy to the causes most meaningful to them. Through our charitable matching gift program, we make their financial help to these valued organizations even more powerful.
Supporting STEM Education
Portland Public Schools and EnviroLogix have partnered to encourage the scientists of the future. We sponsored the first annual Portland STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Expo for local middle and high school students in 2014. With over 1,200 students in attendance the first year, we plan to continue and grow this event for years to come. Our staff scientists routinely visit students in Portland classrooms as well, to support their science curriculum, answer questions and provide hands-on learning opportunities.
Giving Back
We support the Preble Street Teen Center with annual Thanksgiving food drives and clothing collections, to help local teens in distress get through the harsh Maine winters. We host Red Cross blood drives, build houses with Habitat for Humanity, and provide volunteer service at many other valuable community organizations like STRIVE, the Iris Network and the Maine Wildlife Park.
Protecting Our Environment
EnviroLogix is committed to making a lasting difference. In 2014, we adopted a section of the Portland Trails - a nonprofit land trust that preserves the local environment for public access - and lend a hand with cleanup and maintenance. We have also had the privilege of volunteering to repair and maintain green spaces within the Royal River Conservation Trust. Our Sustainability Team works on implementing new ways for us to lessen our environmental footprint. In 2015, we added composting to our existing recycling program in an effort to further reduce waste.
Employee Spotlight: Mike Leveille, Manager of Production Planning
When Mike started his employment at EnviroLogix 15 years ago, he was one of only 15 employees and our facility was in a smaller location, with a footprint of 3,000 square feet. Back then, Mike’s primary responsibilities included coating plates and manufacturing reagents, conjugates and controls for our ELISA business. Before long, a large customer came along and increased our plate kit volume by 6,900%. In typical character, Mike was up to the task! To increase capacity, Mike played an instrumental role in the purchase and implementation of our current plate coating equipment. With Mike’s production experience, it was a natural progression to take on the Manager of Production Planning. He helped introduce the Sales and Operations planning process, improving communication between key stakeholders across the organization. After mastering the planning role, Mike stepped up to manage both planning and logistics and now oversees shipping and receiving.
Mike is a Lean Six Sigma green belt and is pursuing a Lean Leadership certificate. He is also enrolled in both his black belt and MBA programs. He has a passion for learning and inspires those around him to expand and grow. Mike exemplifies what it means to have a good work ethic, loyalty and integrity and is a mentor to many of us at EnviroLogix.
