Mediterranean Facility Services

The Mediterranean has untapped potential to contribute to the leading role played by the forest sector in the global bioeconomy with its distinctive ecological and social characteristics. Thematic research and networking at EFI’s Mediterranean Facility (EFIMED) focuses on creating sustainable value from Mediterranean forested landscapes.

Policy Support Facility Services

We work with European decision-makers, stakeholders, policy institutions and EFI`s member organisations to bring our science-based knowledge to the policy arena.

International Partnerships Facility Services

The International Partnerships Facility is a global centre of knowledge and expertise that supports policy and governance reforms to safeguard the world’s forests. We promote sustainable forest and land use to help protect and restore forests and maximise their role in green economic growth, climate change mitigation and poverty alleviation. We also foster legal, deforestation-free and sustainable commodity production and trade. To achieve these goals, we facilitate partnerships between producing and consuming countries that engage key stakeholders in lasting solutions.

Bioregions Facility Services

The Bioregions Facility promotes transregional cooperation for a sustainable and integrative forest-based circular bioeconomy.

Genetic Resources Facility Services

The Genetic Resources Facility (EFIGEN) hosts the long-standing EUFORGEN programme, the European hub for forest genetic resources, promoting research, informing policy making and networking. EFIGEN is also responsible for the communication and science-policy interface for EC-funded projects and networks related to forest genetics.

Research Services

We provide collective science-based insights at European and regional level to support informed policy making. Together with our large network of Associate Member organisations, we Conduct and promote interdisciplinary and cross-sector research, to address policy-relevant issues at a pan-European or regional level. Analyse and upscale information on forest resources, products and services on a pan-European level. Support the coordination, strengthening and networking of forest research capacities aiming to overcome the fragmentation of European forest research. Advocate for forest research within the forest sector, as well as within other scientific domains.

Research Networks Services

Research Networks include EFI member organizations and other relevant research partners. The networks aim to enhance European and/or regional cooperation and coordination of transnational research within EFI`s themes of Bioeconomy, Resilience and Governance. Coordinated by an EFI member organization, Research Networks maintain a permanent dialogue between EFI member organizations and EFI Programmes and Facilities. Research Networks operate for a certain time period (five years, subject to renewal) and their coordination is self-financed.
