HATCH Biosystems
HATCH turns food waste into protein-rich livestock feed and organic fertiliser using Black Soldier Fly larvae. Over 30% of the world™s food is wasted before reaching each year, yet more food is needed to feed growing global populations. Insects can change food waste into protein-rich food for livestock and organic fertiliser for farmers, within 10 days. Insects ˜bioconvert™ food waste with up 70% less CO2 emissions than composting! We thought that was worth further insectigation (we couldn™t help it!). HATCH aims to divert over 30,000 tonnes of food waste from landfill each year. In terms of reduced CO2 emissions, this is equivalent to taking 5,000 cars off the road annually. Specializing in sustainable waste management solutions

About Us
Claire Leach founded HATCH in 2016.
Previously Director of Development at food rescue charity FareShare, Claire is passionate about sustainable solutions for the world’s growing food waste problem. Reading about innovative companies overseas using insects to convert food waste into livestock feed and fertiliser - she was hooked, and decided to implement the same system here in Australia.
HATCH has a passionate and experienced Board and Advisory Team, bringing a wealth of business, technical and strategic knowledge and expertise.
In 2015 Claire met Dr. Jeff Tomberlin, a Black Soldier Fly (BSF) expert from Texas A&M University (USA). Claire is the only Australian to have trained in the USA, learning all things BSF from Dr. Tomberlin and his colleagues. HATCH was a founding member of the Dr. Tomberlin’s EVO Consortium, which assists Black Soldier Fly companies around the world.
