Hybrimin GmbH & Co. KG
HYBRIMIN was founded in 1979 by the agricultural engineer Manfred Gabriel. Previously, he was responsible for ration design, premix calculation and compound feed production at various companies. This wealth of experience influenced the development of the software right from the start. The name HYBRIMIN comes from HYBRIdsauen-MINeral (mineral feed for HYBRID sows). In the early years, HYBRIMIN also had its own mineral feed produced and marketed it under the name HYBRIMIN. HYBRIMIN is a feed formulation software solutions & service provider that supports the animal feed industry with advanced technology solutions. Built around an extensive animal nutrition database, our system has built-in flexibility to accommodate any specific nutritional requirements, a gentle learning curve and an extensive support program. Different feed calculation models used worldwide can be integrated, provided the licenses for this are available.
HYBRIMIN® Futter X is launched. HYBRIMIN® Futter X is an internationally applicable web program for ration calculation and feed optimization for all types of pets and livestock. It is delivered in 33 languages. In addition to HYBRIMIN® Futter 5 and HYBRIMIN® WinFumi, this is the third independent product.
HYBRIMIN® Futter 5 is now available in 31 different languages. In addition to the Latin languages, there are also Arabic (Saudi Arabia), Chinese (Mandarin), Greek and Russian. HYBRIMIN® has external partners in Croatia, Lithuania, Russia and the Ukraine.
The multilingual version of HYBRIMIN® WinFumi 9.5 is presented at Eurotier 2016 in Hanover.
HYBRIMIN® is the world’s first company for software in the animal feed sector to introduce the three-part calculation screen in HYBRIMIN® WinFumi 9.0: raw materials, ingredients and the finished declaration can now be processed simultaneously.
The multilingual advisor program HYBRIMIN® Futter 5 comes on the market. There are now regular updates and program development. HYBRIMIN® is active in more than 40 countries.
HYBRIMIN® WinFumi 8 is launched. Development of feedstock and integration of new optimization methods.
The Windows feed advisor program, HYBRIMIN® Futter 2008 receives a new database is launched. Translations begin to extend the language options to twelve, including Greek, Lithuanian and Turkish. The first external partners in Croatia and the Ukraine join the team.
Dipl. Kaufmann Thomas Gabriel, who had been employed by the company since 1979, first in software development and then as project leader, takes over HYBRIMIN®. The firm becomes HYBRIMIN® Computer + Programme GmbH & Co. KG.
The Windows advisor version is extended: HYBRIMIN® Futter 2003. Further development of HYBRIMIN® WinFumi with a new database. All animal feed data is revised and expanded with new feedstock.
All HYBRIMIN® programs adapted for the Euro.
The final MS-DOS version to meet the “Year 2000 Problem”. The first Windows advisor version of HYBRIMIN® Futter 2000 comes on the market.
The first Windows version HYBRIMIN® WinFumi for Windows 95 is employed at food and feed manufacturers. Expansion of the range: HYBRIMIN® WinFumi is upgraded on a yearly basis through the update service. The sales of the advisor version are extended to East Asia.
Further improvement of the MS-DOS advisor program, introduction of the translation module – the customer can now translate the programs into any language himself.
Start of Windows programming for Windows 3.11 with the aim of creating multi-user versions.
Staff increased, company headquarters moved to Fuhlen.
Further languages and countries added: South Tyrol, Cyprus, Czech Republic, the Baltic States.
A successful start in the new Federal States working with external partners.
HYBRIMIN® Fumi is installed by rolled large food and dietary feed manufacturers.
The first feed advice programs HYBRIMIN® Futter, extended by the EPSON HX-20 using MS-DOS on PC and laptop, are sold. HYBRIMIN® Fumi is introduced in Austria and Switzerland and installed in over 100 companies. Translations in Bulgarian, Romanian and Russian will follow.
HYBRIMIN® develops a declaration module for use in Raiffeisen centers. The first English version of HYBRIMIN® Fumi is sold to Nigeria. A comprehensive fertilizer version is created.
Development of HYBRIMIN® software is strengthened. Following on from the first generations of programs for the feed industry, come versions for the fertilizer and nutrition industries. From the very start, these programs are produced in two versions with differing capabilities – an optimized version for industrial feed and foodstuff manufacturers and a smaller, easy to use, advisor version for feed merchants, modified also for the fertilizer and foodstuff industry.
Portable computers arrive on the market. HYBRIMIN® sells the first Epson HX-20 for feed calculation and becomes a pioneer in agricultural computer consultation. In subsequent years, this is also sold in Austria and the first English version to Saudi Arabia. The hardware and software combination is sold over 1,500 times.
HYBRIMIN® takes advantage of the “IT Boom Years” in the first half of the 1980s. With the arrival of the first affordable computers such as DEC Vax or Commodore PET 2100, simple feed optimizations are possible with the help of the Simplex algorithm with up to 20 restrictions.
Agricultural engineer Manfred Gabriel has been working in the animal nutrition industry for a long time. He uses his many years of experience and his knowledge of premix manufacturing to create software and establishes the firm HYBRIMIN® Futterspezialitäten GmbH, to sell feed and animal nutrition products. The name HYBRIMIN® comes from HYBRIdsauen-MINeral(Hybrid sow-mineral). Next comes the production and marketing of mineral feed.
Nowadays, an internet search will bring up many feed software options. Most use Excel tables. This solution is basically okay, provided one has a good knowledge of Excel and only wants to calculate a few rations or mixes per year. If this is the case, then it is not worth buying professional feed software. The major problem is often the very idiosyncratic structure of the Excel tables, which makes work and achieving fast results difficult.
If daily recipes need calculating or optimising, then it is worth considering the purchase of professional feed software. It is a waste of time to try to program a good feed software oneself. The effort involved is always underestimated and the problem is always in the detail (HYBRIMIN® feed software contains several million source codes!). (Who builds their own tractor nowadays?)
There are differences in how up-to-date commercially available programs are. Once the software has been created, it often remains on offer and unchanged 10 years later. The science of animal nutrition, however, does not stand still but is constantly undergoing change. If you wish to work as a professional in this field, it makes sense to choose a manufacturer that concentrates its activity in this field and does not make all sorts of other software products. There should also be regular updates.
Once one has decided that one needs to make many calculations on a regular basis, then the choice of a good feed software should be based on whether one needs to be an IT expert to use it, or whether the feed software is so easy to use that one can concentrate on animal nutrition and feed calculations. The available options differ greatly as to learning curve and technical simplicity.
This section describes German attitudes to the development of animal nutrition and feed calculation. This section is not chronologically complete, but is expanded from time to time. If you have any feedback on this, please contact us. We are grateful for any information on calculation methods or tools used (e.g. slide rule, computer, etc).
1864 Henneberg / Stohmann establish the so-called Weende Analysis in Göttingen (the Institute was situated in Weende, thus the name)
Many feed calculation software manufacturers do not have their own database. Therefore, a user must have a lot of experience in creating one.
In years of work, with extensive know-how, data from a wide variety of sources has been entered into HYBRIMIN®‘s own database and kept up to date.
