Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA)
The Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) was formed in 2002 to represent the state’s liquid renewable fuels industry. The IRFA brings together Iowa ethanol and biodiesel producers to foster the development and growth of the state’s renewable fuels industry through education, promotion and infrastructure development. IRFA is committed to making Iowa a leader in producing renewable fuels and value-added co-products. Iowa is the nation’s leader in renewable fuels production. Iowa has 43 ethanol refineries capable of producing over 4.5 billion gallons annually, including 34 million gallons of annual cellulosic ethanol production capacity. In addition, Iowa has 11 biodiesel facilities with the capacity to produce nearly 400 million gallons annually.
