About Us
Joseph Mount first began quarrying lime in 1868 in Brandon, Suffolk. Chalk was excavated by hand and moved to local farms using a horse & cart. Joseph’s son (also called Joseph) soon joined the business and was later followed by his son Frederick and grandson Eric. At this point the company were knapping flints and producing chalk for inclusion in mineral feed & whiting as well as chalk blocks for building.
A second quarry was opened and Mount’s Lime now had a fleet of lorry spreaders to keep up with the demand from farmers. Keith joined the business in 1958 and helped to develop new soil testing methods as well as maps and reports for customers.
In 1994 Andrew became the 6th generation of the family to be involved with agricultural lime. The business has now expanded to cover the whole of Eastern England with the company delivering lime to farms from up to 17 different sources and employing 30 to 40 spreaders at peak times. Keith Mount Liming is now one of the largest independent lime suppliers in the UK.
In addition to lime, the company is supplying Fibrophos, P-Grow, uPKeep, Gypsum and other fertilisers from 10 different sites utilising the existing fleet of spreaders to apply products across the whole of the region. Keith has developed the compost side of the business and sources composted green waste from 7 different sites throughout the area but could always do with more.
Andrew has built the Precision Farming side of the business, initially providing a GPS mapping service to farms in East Anglia. This was so successful that before long a network of operators were set up throughout the UK & Ireland to provide a nationwide service under the PhieldteK brand. This service has led the company to become dealers for hardware & software from Trimble and Farmworks, providing farmers with GPS and precision solutions for agriculture.
With over 140 years of service to agriculture and a wide range of solutions for your soil our company can help you to farm for the future.
