Waste paper and board recovery rate continues to rise despite the recession.

The Confederation of Paper Industries preliminary data shows that last year the collection rate rose to 78% even though paper consumption in the UK diminished by 10% to a mere 11.5 million tonnes.

Because of limited domestic use, UK paper exports saw an increase of up to 90% that were using fibrous raw materials coming from recovered paper and board.

The amount of residual rubbish that may be produced in Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire over the next 30 years has been revealed.

Residual rubbish refers to that which cannot be economically re-used, recycled or composted.

A Waste Flow Model has been created by Project Transform to look at how much rubbish people are likely to produce and how much of this can be recycled.

A new contract, which could increase recycling rates to 75%, has been awarded by North Yorkshire County Council.

The seven-year contract to operate 17 recycling centres was awarded to May Gurney in the hope it will make the necessary improvements to increase recycling rates.

May Gurney has said it plans to make changes to the sites, including improving signage and offering more opportunities for recycling books, CDs and furniture.

Construction vehicle manufacturer JCB has been granted an injunction against three “Far Eastern manufacturers” who breached the company’s vehicle copyrights.

JCB successfully applied for the court orders in Germany after three companies were found to be exhibiting vehicles which breached JCB copyright at the BAUMA international construction equipment show in Munich last week. Following the injunction, the offending vehicles were removed, impounded or hidden from view.
