North Yorkshire awards seven year recycling contract
Apr. 20, 2010
A new contract, which could increase recycling rates to 75%, has been awarded by North Yorkshire County Council.
The seven-year contract to operate 17 recycling centres was awarded to May Gurney in the hope it will make the necessary improvements to increase recycling rates.
May Gurney has said it plans to make changes to the sites, including improving signage and offering more opportunities for recycling books, CDs and furniture.
Currently, North Yorkshire County Council manages to recycle and compost about 70% of the material it receives at its recycling centres but it is hoped that under the new contract, this will increase to 75%.
Council member for waste disposal, Clare Wood said: “I look forward to working with May Gurney over the next seven years to improve the services available to residents.”
