Quality Farming Tools for Nearly a Century...

Osmundson Mfg. Co. was founded in 1903 by the late Henry Osmundson. Henry and two friends immigrated to this country in a small fishing boat from Norway.

Henry Osmundson worked and started two businesses before coming to Perry where he started Osmundson Spade Co. Henry and son, Howard, both worked at the plant and commuted by train from Slater to Perry, living in the factory during the week.

Howard married Rose Elizabeth Crawford of Minburn, and they moved permanently to Perry. When Henry decided to sell the business, Howard and Rose paid him for half of it and Henry gave them the other half.

Howard and Rose had two children, Ruie Jean and Bonnie Lee, passed away in her late twenties. Donald Bruce, son of Harry S. Bruce of Perry, married Ruie Jean where they lived in Waterloo during World War II. Don who was a staff sergeant, served as a meat inspector during the war. After the war, Don and Ruie returned to Perry. At this time Don began to work for Howard.

Under Don Bruce's leadership, the company expanded into new products through the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. The throw-away plowshare became a major item in the 1950's that allowed the company to expand into the tillage tool market. The disc blade became a substantial part of the business in the early 1970's, along with the plow share. The current factory was build in 1974 on the edge of town.

Today Osmundson Mfg. Co. is still family owned and run by fourth generation Douglas G. Bruce as President. The company has evolved from a small plant that dealt in the manufacturing of tiling spades and small tools to one of the nations most modern and high speed tillage tool companies. Presently, Osmundson Mfg. Co. is the only U.S. manufacturer of disc, seeder and coulter blades.

Osmundson Mfg. Co. currently sells disc blades, plow shares, sweeps, spikes and other products to most states in this country, into Canada, Australia, China, and the Far East. There are many patented Osmundson parts, such as the 'Turbo', on original equipment that find there place around the world.

The company has enjoyed growth through many U.S. and Foreign patents, along with innovative manufacturing designs. It has, over the years, afforded the farmer the opportunity of using the most up to date, 'Made in America' ground engaging equipment available.

Due to increased production capability and more efficient machinery, a concentrated effort is being placed on expanding the market areas and new products.

At the present time over 90 people are employed at the 142,000 square feet facility. It offers excellent working conditions and the opportunity for growth training. As Osmundson Mfg. grows in the marketplace and farming techniques grow more complicated key personnel are encouraged to continue with education that allows them a broader knowledge of the workings of the industry as well as preparing for better job efficiency.
