Our History
Ovapiscis was born in 1994 within a group of trout producers, with the idea of having high quality and genetically selected eggs throughout the year, to obtain the best performance from each individual in the industrial fattening facilities of Rainbow trout. First, it has a plant located in Fonteo (Galicia).
Two years later he joined the company Genetica y Ovas (Genova SA), which had two fish farms Collarada and Los rigales in Villanua (Huesca), organizing their production with a common program. Throughout 2018, Ovapiscis absorbed said company, consolidating the brand.
In 2003 the blue well fish farm (Burgos) was acquired from the spring on a rental basis, and in 2018 it was acquired as property. For 6 months, the Ovapiscis technicians made the necessary modifications to provide it with the latest technological advances in fish farming until it became a modern and safe plant, capable of fulfilling the delicate mission of raising future reproducers. Since its acquisition, it has been used as a support facility for the two plants of the company destined to the expedition of embryonic roe: Fonteo and Villanua.
In 2015, the company invested in the purchase of a new farm in San Salvador de Oña (Burgos). This plant is mostly used to carry out the genetic selection programs of the company, with high technology and optimal water quality. In addition, this plant provides future reproducers to the group's production farms.
Therefore, they currently source their egg production from three facilities. Two of them dedicated to production and dispatch located, one in Upper Aragon in Villanua and the other in Galicia, specifically in Fonteo. The third of these is entirely dedicated to the production of future non-embryonated broodstock and eggs in Castilla-León, the Pozo Azul fish farm. On the other hand, it obtains future breeders from the Oña fish farm, where no eggs are produced or traded. All of them are fed with spring water, to guarantee the sanitary status of the reproducers and eggs, as well as to achieve the best quality in production.
Thanks to the optimum temperature of the water and to some photoperiod programs adapted for each installation, the company has the capacity to produce eggs throughout the year, meeting the demands of the market.
In order to guarantee supply to associated producers, the company increased production, thus being able to offer a part of it to other fish farmers. Due to the high quality and acceptance of the product, a consolidation and expansion process began, introducing the product to new markets.
The current production of more than 300 million eggs per year makes us the leading European producer of Rainbow trout roe. This allows us to guarantee a safe supply of high quality roe to our customers in more than twenty countries around the world including Europe, America and Asia.
