Silo Ventilation Systems

Silo Ventilation Systems are the official distributor of the Silo Vent and Air Intake Vent (AIV) product range. Silo Vent is a low cost and maintenance free solution to the reduction of internal temperature and humidity levels for silos stored with grain, feed or legumes. Air Intake Vents (AIV) are installed near the base of silos and are designed to increase passive airflow throughout the stored commodity improving aeration. The AIV acts as a sealed chamber for the easy administration of chemical treatments at ground level, improving efficiency and safety.

The NEW AIV-BB features a heavy duty construction with seamless fittings thereby increasing the amount of phosphine tablets that can be added. This also means that fewer units are required for larger silos.

Silo Vents & Air Intake Vents can be installed separately but work best when used in conjunction with each other. Their benefits include; reduction of internal silo temperature, stabilisation of grain temperature, reduces humidity & condensation build up in silos, replaces & circulates air inside silos and reduction of optimum breeding condition for insects.

Silo Ventilation Systems product's are designed to make grain storage & management safer and easier. The products are easy to install, environmentally friendly, operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and require no ongoing maintenance after installation.

In July 1994 John Knight, a grain farmer from Mallee country in Victoria installed the first wind driven Turbo unit on his farm ,without knowing the technical reasons why the wind driven Turbo worked ,he just new that it took the heat out of his silos and his grain was cleaner and fresher without constant weevil attacks.

In 1996 Anthony Balding owner of a specialized Building Supply Company went to the farm and started to ask questions on what the wind driven turbo was doing.

From a building ventilation background, we determined that the air movement created by the Turbo unit did a number of things.
  • Constant air movement minimizes condensation
  • Reduces heat build up in confined spaces
  • Drops humidity levels by 20% average
  • Enables grain to breathe more freely.
Over the past 14 years we have tested and evaluated a number of different systems to deliver the best systems for grain storage, ventilation and fumigation of silos to the agriculture industry.
On-farm testing (see photo) took place over an extended period which resulted in a reduction in temperature and humidity using wind driven ventilators within the housing of the ventilator.

Further advancements took place in 2000 to introduce a baffle fitted to the underside of the ventilator to be used in sealed silos to enable fumigation and then ventilation after the fumigation had taken place.

In 2005 we introduced the Air Intake Vents and Fumigation Chamber to allow fresh air to be drawn from the bottom of the silo through the grain and increasing airflow to the Turbo wind ventilator and baffle unit.

In 2008 we have a complete system to handle grain and feed storage on farm for all types of silos, and grain sheds.

We are constantly upgrading our systems to be smarter, safer, and cleaner.

Silo Vent and gas seal damper are proudly designed and manufactured in Australia. The Silo Vent system is distributed exclusively under license by Silo Ventilation Systems Pty Ltd.
