About Us
Treloar Roses was founded by the late Ted Treloar during the early 1960’s. He started selling rose plants from his nursery located at the back of his fruit and vegetable shop. Frustrated by the problems of obtaining newer releases and quality roses he purchased some land and began a life long career in growing roses. His dedication to the industry and passion for roses saw the business grow into Australia’s leading rose nursery.
Mail order
It was during the 1960’s that Ted saw the potential in sending bare root rose plants direct to customers by mail order as they travelled extremely well during the winter dormant season. In 1966 he produced the first of the now famous colour catalogues and the mail order distribution has continued to grow every season since, supplying direct to the public and retail nurseries Australia wide. Today we grow the largest range of roses offered by mail order in Australia.
Quality and service
Over the years Treloar Roses has built a reputation for supplying superior quality rose plants, backed by efficient and reliable service. We encourage our customers to contact us if they find they are not totally satisfied with the quality of our stock and or our customer service.
Note also, that all our rose varieties are bud grafted onto virus tested rootstock. We use several varieties of rootstock, including Dr.Huey, manetti, multiflora and kiwi.
Portland is Victoria's first permanent settlement (1834) and still maintains over 200 buildings from the 1800's. Tucked away on the far south-west coast of Victoria, it boasts many natural attractions, including wide sweeps of beautiful beaches, rocky headlands and little secluded coves. The coastline gives way to undulating farming country and National Parks with walking tracks and picnic areas. The spectacular Great South West walk offers over 250km of walking track and takes in a good cross-section of the diverse Australia landscape.
So while visiting us at Treloar Roses why not stay a while and discover the beauty of far south-west Victoria.
