Work mode is a new and modern feature that enables you to customize the displayed colors and contrast and positions of symbols and input ? elds, optimize information, con? gure information tabs, and much more. The Production tab provides real-time information on logged volume, number of trunks, aver-age diameter at breast height, and trunk volume. The display can show real-time information recorded since the assignment began, since the most recent par-tial completion, the current week, today, currently, after a certain date or according to a resettable trip meter, for a sub-assignment or assignment, for a speci? c or all op-erators, and above or below bark. The graphic trunk provides infor-mation about the assortment and crosscut length of the last log, as well as the class of the current log. This helps the operator monitor the crosscutting process. After each tilt up, a lumber list is displayed with detailed information about the logs harvested from the last tree. Clear head symbols indicate color marking, thick limbed func-tion, extra clamping pressure, and that the saw is out or has fastened. Equally clear machine indicators report the status of everything from the transmission and the ma-chine’s angle of tilt through the trip meter reading to oil temperatures and engine speed. The modern menu system is Windows-based and offers several access levels, providing unbeatable user-friendliness. All settings are logically structured in main menus and submenus. The system can display metric or imperial units throughout. The joystick button controls can be con? gured according to the operator’s personal prefer-ences using a dialogue box that’s extremely easy to understand. Windows program menus can be browsed with the joysticks. A user-friendly portal makes it easy to access installed programs. A graphic HMI, menus with but-tons, pull-down lists, and illustra-tions make it easy to understand how the machine is adjusted. USER INTERFACE MaxiXplorer’s full integration with other systems makes it the supe-rior machine control system on the market. MaxiXplorer controls every-thing from the crane through cab leveling to the transmission and ladders. You can create an unlimited number of users to store machine settings, production data, and operation data, as well as create various operator pro? les for operation under different condi-tions. Operator selection is quick and easy. The most important machine functions control the crane and cab leveling, and are easily ad-justed from a single dialog box. Functions that are set separately for each operator can be adjusted to achieve just the right sensitiv-ity and speed, or smoothness and precision, preferred by each operator. The system can level the cab either fully automatically or manu-ally under operator control. The machine can be maneuvered using the separate control lever or the joysticks, and all control signals are ? ltered to ensure a smooth ride. Transmission control is de-signed to optimize traction force and transport speed whatever the ground conditions. Engine control regulates power output quickly and accurately, minimizing environ-mental impact. MACHINE CONTROL MAXIXPLORERSYSTEMIZED PRODUCTIVITY HEAD CONTROL CROSS-CUTTING MaxiXplorer’s head control is one of the most versatile on the market, and most system functions are adjusted from inside the cab. To-gether with the responsive hydrau-lic system, this makes it possible to ? nd even the narrowest cutting window, quickly and easily. The power of the knives, the feed rollers, and tilt down function is ad-justed in an easily understood chart, and is set according to trunk diam-eter and tree species. This ensures optimum productivity and preci-sion. The intelligent cutting control regulates the bar and feed pressure as a function of trunk diameter and saves a great deal of time. A popular function is bar rescue, which is used if the bar fastens fully out at the back of a trunk after a felling cut. The system carefully maneuvers the saw back without bending the bar or causing the chain to jump off. Another smart function is clearing. High productivity is often about getting a good rhythm going, and there are many functions to help out with this, such as an advanced anti-slip system that automatically regulates knife and roller clamp-ing pressure. The system can also automatically send opening pulses to reduce trunk friction. There’s a special thick limbed function for really thick limbed forest. If the forest is eas-ily processed, the operator can further increase productivity by using sequential control, which controls the entire process from engagement to tilt up in a single sequence. MaxiXplorer can also control the top saw, adjustable stump treatment, chain lubrica-tion, and color marking with up to three colors. MaxiXplorer ful? lls all crosscutting requirements from the very simplest to full-scale value crosscutting. With MaxiB, the program with the most intuitive interface on the market, you simply input lengths and assort-ments. Buttons can be associated with crosscutting selections for manual control, though the program can also optimize the harvesting of assortments in a descending order of priority. MaxiXplorer with MaxiA of-fers crosscutting ef? ciency that is ranked among the market leaders and the full-scale value crosscut-ting option optimizes the harvest based on sawmill requirements. Fixed length crosscutting, based on lengths and diameters, can be used for more accurate control over the outcome to better meet sawmill re-quirements. The instructions can be freely edited in MaxiA during an as-signment – length classes changed, assortments replaced, and so on. The documented exceptional preci-sion of Komatsu heads enables high resolution volume calculations. The system is fully compatible with the StanForD standard, includ-ing the storage of GPS coordinates in production ? les. Production reports are clear and easy to understand. You can select both the assignment type (assignment or sub-assignment) and the report type (production ? le or printout). The report can cover the entire assignment, or be limited to data not previously reported, produc-tion per partial completion, or production during a certain period of the assignment. The production, operation, and trunk data print-outs are clear and contain every-thing needed for comprehensive reporting. Information can also be excluded to reduce the size of the printout and the document can be previewed before printing. MaxiXplorer’s crosscutting system learns the forest and makes very accurate forecasts of the shape of the trees for value crosscutting. The system optimizes the entire tree. Functions such as adaptive trunk forecast and near-optimum method enable the system to learn quickly. With quality cross-cutting, the operator can specify quality limits for the trunk, such as the limit for dry limbs, and easily control crosscutting so that assortment selections are adapted to the tree’s quality limits. MaxiXplorer also supports important country-speci? c func-tions, such as Skogforsk-com-pliant barking functions, Finnish diameter section measurements, and HKS assignment parameters. Maxi8The powerful PC has a remote display screen. The versatile screen sits on an adjustable mount in front of the operator for optimum visibility. The screen has a USB port for quick and easy transfers to a USB ? ash drive. The wireless, easily accessed keyboard has an ergonomic design with a large, integrated optical trackball for high precision and comfort. Menus are navigated using the keyboard, trackball, or joysticks. The A4 color printer sits in a specially designed and well protected cubbyhole with easy access. A slave screen can be con-nected to the PC, which is gener-ously equipped with USB ports and COM ports to connect USB ? ash drives and other peripherals. The PC is fully compatible with the most common Windows-com-patible wireless communication media, such as GSM modems, GPRS, EDGE, CDMA450, WLAN, satellite, and so on.The separate DVD player sits ? ush in the instrument panel and is easily loaded. The harvester’s computer caliper is mounted in a handy docking station for continual charging and data communication with the Maxi system. The radio found in the harvesters has MP3 support and connections for USB devices and memory cards. Two joystick options are avail-able on most harvester models. The large joysticks with wooden handles and all buttons ergonomi-cally placed offer a comfortable work posture. The mini joysticks have the most commonly used buttons on the sticks. Combined with sequential control, this is a very ? exible and productive alter-native. The backup function for the PC’s main database has a con? gurable time interval that determines how often data is backed up to a con-nected ? ash drive or other USB device. This secures the data – if the PC needs replacing, all data is easily restored. The operator creates assignments with which information is associat-ed during harvesting. An unlimited number of assignments can be created, and sub-assignments can be created under each such as-signment. It’s very easy to create, change, or close an assignment as all assignments and sub-assign-ments are managed from the same place, the Assignment Overview. It’s also easy to search old assign-ments to ? nd information. When an assignment is high-lighted in the Assignment Over-view, the most important informa-tion is displayed immediately, such as production per tree species and assortment, as well as adminis-trative parameters. The operator can specify which administrative parameters are displayed. Assignments are easily man-aged using the buttons beside the Assignment Overview. As a complement to the Assignment Overview and the production information displayed on the work mode tabs, the Production Overview offers additional produc-tion information. No printouts or production ? les are needed to con-tinually display production data on screen, with species and assort-ments broken down into numbers and volumes, as well as average lengths and allocations. You can specify where produc-tion ? les are saved on the hard drive, and allow the system to automatically create and name folders and ? les based on, for example, the assignment name. The ? le management tool can be used to associate events with automatic actions. For example, on the event ”Assignment closed”, the system can be set to always e-mail the production ? le to a particu-lar e-mail address, with speci? c information included in the e-mail subject line.ASSIGNMENT MANAGEMENT EQUIPMENT 9MaxiSERVICEMISCELLANEOUS The system’s integrated alarm system alerts the operator in work mode, indicating the cause and code when something is wrong. After the alarm is acknowledged, it’s saved to a system log ? le. If something happens to the machine, such as the hydraulic oil level drops too low, the alarm appears in a large red box that must be acknowledged by the operator. After acknowledge-ment, the alarm is added to an alarm list that can be viewed on the alarm tab. Easily accessed help texts are available for all functions, provid-ing user-friendly information about settings, default values, and scales. The software loaded via the PC is easily upgraded. The hydro-static drive, gas pedal, and joysticks either need no calibration or are calibrated by the system. Measurements made by the head can be checked with high preci-sion using the computer caliper. The operator need only indicate in a quick menu that a processed tree is a sample tree. At any time, the op-erator can take the caliper and leave the cab to control measure the logs. No manual intervention is required to send the data to the caliper. All measurement data is stored and can be used for calibration or qual-ity follow-ups. The system’s calibra-tion using regression analysis for reliable calibration across the entire diameter intervals saves a great deal of time. Collected trunk pro? les for control measurements or trunk data collection are easily reviewed in MaxiS, which shows whether the pressure in the head is correctly adjusted and whether the knives fol-low the trunks uniformly. The system database contains logs used for control measurements and the operator can select which logs to include, ensuring the best possible calibration data. The sys-tem displays an easily understood graphic presentation, showing the diameter measurement errors of each diameter class. The calibration history is contained in the produc-tion and control ? les. If control measurement requirements are lower, length and diameter meas-urement can be quickly and easily calibrated by measuring individual logs, without using the computer caliper. Komatsu’s unique ESS system, one of the most sophisticated spare part tools on the market, lists all machine parts, item numbers, exploded views, and more. The user-friendly troubleshooting tool enables comprehensive trouble-shooting of system hardware and networks. The system has an integrated ope-ration reporting system that can register machine and operator acti-vities. The operator’s shift times and time worked outside machine time can be registered. Machine time, basic time, downtime, and downtime causes can also be registered, as can hourly produc-tivity and fuel consumption. The operator can also enter additional information on downtime, such as the item numbers of replaced parts. The information is displayed on a tab in work mode, where ope-ration reports and a .drf ? le can be created. The information can even be exported as an Excel ? le for data processing. The new GIS program for har-vesters, MaxiN, provides an easy way to manage GIS information and maps. The program plots pro-duction on the map and highligh-ting part of the map displays the production data for that speci? c area. Naturally, the system also offers e-mail and web browser access.MAXIWINDOWS SUITE The most practical software suite on the market Maxi12MaxiA Create crosscutting instructionsfor value crosscutting from scratch MaxiB Create crosscutting instructionswith simpler user interface A program for the of? ce and the harvester.
