From the hopper (1) the potatoes slide onto a wide conveyor belt (2), which carries them between the electronically controlled adjustable apertures (3), the bottom half of which is bent inwards. The potatoes then travel towards the two conical formed discs with a flat outer rim. Alongside the wide conveyor belt (2) there are two narrow conveyor belts(7), which are fed by the supply discs (4) which counter rotate at a speed adjustable to that at which the machine is traveling over the field. The seed supplied by the conveyor belt (2) are spread out by the rotating discs (5) and picked up and carried to the narrow conveyor belts (7).

The discs (5) are closely surrounded by a wall tapered in the centre. The seeds picked up by the discs (5) are discharged by the rubber discs (4) to the conveyor belts (7). The peripheral velocity of the discs (5) is higher than the velocity of the conveyor belts (7), so that the seeds tend to crowd together in the extension of the wall adjustable baffle plates (6) are positioned just above the conveyor belts (7). These plates are caused to vibrate by the tractor pto. This selective vibration helps to form a regular row of seed potatoes on to the belt, which the spiked roller (8) then conveys to the furrow to be planted (9). The potatoes are covered with soil by discs (10). No supervision is required on the machine. An electronic controlled feed unit (3) guarantees a regular flow onto the central belt (2).

Pressure on the rubber flap by the potato flow activates an electronic switch, which then activates the adjustable gate mechanism (3).

Three row bed potato planter

To meet customer requests this unique planter has been developed to plant chitted-, irregular- and large tubers in preformed beds gently and accurately.

The main delivery belt is divided into two separate belts with a lengthened planting conveyor belt in the centre. In operation the centre belt is fed direct from the hopper outlet with overfill of potatoes being transferred to the front discs for delivery to the outer feed belts. Redesigned openers give an even planting depth with row spacing of 37,5 (14,7”) to 40 cm (15,7”).Tuber spacing is adjusted by easy change sprockets or the option of computer CONTROLLER.A combination of discs and levelling board leave a well formed finish to the bed.
