Boris NetCulture Systems

Ponds, raceways, recirculating systems, and cages are the four culture systems available for fish. A cage, sometimes known as a net pen, is a mechanism that restricts fish or shellfish in a mesh enclosure. The construction of a cage and a net pen differs by definition. A cage has a rigid frame (on all sides), but a net pen has a stiff frame at the top. The phrases “cage” and “net pen” are sometimes used interchangeably.

Even though they have robust frames, marine cages are frequently referred to be net pens and vice versa. Differences in structure have no impact on production techniques or the environmental impact of these systems.

Cage culture uses existing water resources (ponds, rivers, estuaries, open oceans, and so on) but restricts the fish inside a mesh enclosure. The mesh keeps the fish in place, making feeding, examining, and catching them easily. The mesh also allows water to readily travel between the fish and the surrounding water supply, preserving water quality and eliminating waste.
