1989

Our patented measuring principle was developed by the company founder and CEO Torbjørn Kvassheim.

It started with his thesis work at the regional university in Stavanger, Norway in 1989. The measuring principle represented a new method of counting where the distance between the objects passing the sensor was no longer relevant. This made it possible to start producing fish counters of high capacity and accuracy. The company was founded in 1990.

1990

The original AquaScan C-series smolt counter quickly made its way to the market in 1991 and was a success for our young start-up company. Besides counting smolts, the international market was still in demand of fast and accurate counting for fish of different sizes and species. This resulted in the development and testing of the CS-series, designed for counting fish being transported in pipes. The CS-series was released to the global market in 1996, able to count a variety of species and fish sizes.

2000

In 2000, the new generation pipeline counters saw the light of day. Being directly based on its predecessor, the new CSE-series had a much tougher and service friendly modul-based construction. The counters were easy to install and operate. with a brand new AquaScan Win PC software, the operator was able to monitor and control the counting from a central computer effortlessly. The CSE-series are still our best sellers, and they have been upgraded several times since the first units.

The CSF-series was also developed in the 2000`s. These fully flooded pipeline counters were specifically developed for the well boat market, where the need for loading and counting large amounts of fish was a key factor. The CSF-series are used in pipe systems where the pipes are completely filled with water. They have two sensor modules, one horizontal and one vertical, allowing the counter to register fish that might not be visible from a single angle when many pass simultaneously. The CSF counters have grown in size over the years and we are now able to deliver CSF counters with a flange connection of DN600.

2010

We at AquaScan are constantly working on solutions for the aquaculture industry. Improving the capability of our products to satisfy and cover the needs of our customers is important to us. When customers wanted a dedicated fry counter, we came up with the CSW2800, the very first CSW counter. The CSW-series are somewhat different from the others. These flatbed counters utilise the full width of the sensor area, letting the fish flow freely through the units. With no pipe diameter as a bottleneck for capacity, we can increase the width of the counter and achieve greater capacity. With the introduction of the new CSW27600 in 2017, the goal was to do just this. With a sensor width of a whopping 276 centimeters, the CSW27600 can count over a million smolts per hour.
