Ovapiscis - Genetics
In our beginnings, we had reproducers from a mass selection that guaranteed good growth, good morphology and excellent sanitary condition. Since the beginning of the activity, we have allocated a significant percentage of our budget to genetic selection, buying in 2015 a plant intended entirely for selection. That is why we are currently obtaining very satisfactory results, even so, we do not neglect the investment in genetics so that we continue to improve our product for the future.

In order to guarantee a good performance in all the production centers, the selection program is carried out in a facility exclusively designed for this purpose, of absolute sanitary guarantee, with a temperature that fluctuates from 12 to 13º C. In the The facility uses animal-friendly methods, taking care of their well-being, thus obtaining the best reproducers to develop our genetics in an optimal way.
Our best reproducers, once their genealogy is known, are electronically marked, both the females and the males for complete traceability. This allows us an individual selection at the time of spawning in order to maintain genetic variability, avoid consanguinity and obtain the best results.
The group of carefully selected breeders provides our future group of breeders that will spawn, by controlled photoperiod, during all months of the year. This guarantees an equal response from the offspring whatever the time of year the trout hatch.
During the first years our efforts were aimed at improving morphology, growth speed and adaptation to intensive cultivation. Once good results were obtained in our first objectives, our lines of work focused on improving filleting performance, the percentage of fat in the muscle, all without forgetting the first ones.
Currently, in addition to improving productive performance, an intense genetic selection is being carried out to improve resistance to different diseases, investing a good part of our R&D in this objective.
Protection of the genetic line
The embryonated eggs that leave our facilities are the result of all the research and economic efforts of our company.
These eggs are intended to produce fattening fish with the best possible yields and are not suitable for use in obtaining broodstock.
With this objective, a genetic protection has been carried out in commercial eggs, in such a way that they can cause serious disappointments if they are used for reproduction purposes.
Ovapiscis is not responsible for the problems that may arise from this misuse.
