Triton - Nutrition Algae
Triton has unlocked the commercial potential of the world’s most closely-studied algae, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Triton has developed a scalable and sustainable methodology by which to produce this highly nutritious algae, and has achieved FDA GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status for use of this algae as an ingredient in foods. Further, Triton has developed strains of its algae that are rich in beta-carotene (yellow in color) and others that our rich in heme (red in color), using non-GMO processes for both.
Triton`s algae is a great source of protein and more importantly essential amino acids. When compared to a traditional source of protein, soy bean, Triton`s algae is superior and contains significantly more total protein, and essential amino acids such as lysine, methionine and tryptophan. Additionally, Triton`s algae is loaded with omega oils, beta-carotene (Vitamin A), iron and calcium to supplement a healthy diet.
High value proteins are selected and their genes designed to maximize their potential for production in Triton`s host algae.
Once genes are designed, Triton enables our proprietary strain of algae to produce the desired gene of interest.
Both wild-type algae and genetically modified algae are scaled and produced using sustainable fermentation processes.
Premium algae products are refined to be market ready. Triton`s products span the realm of dietary supplements to infant formula ingredients.
Triton`s process allows low cost chemicals are converted into nutritious Chlamydomonas powder. Resulting from Chlamydomonas higher nutrient and water use efficiency, there is less waste than compared to traditional agriculture. Additionally, the use of crop protection chemicals and pesticides are completely eliminated. Finally, Chlamydomonas is provided in a dried powder, similar to flour, to facilitate easy transportation and storage.
