The phytotron consists of 5 growth chambers. a view in one of climate thermo-light chambers Two are walk-in climate thermo-light chambers, type KTLK 20 000-IV (manufacturer: NEMA-Industrietechnik GmbH) with a net usable area of 6 m2 each, and three plant-growth chambers, type HB/VB 1514 (manufacturer: Vötsch Industrietechnik GmbH ) with a usable area of 1.3 m2 each. The technical parameters provide for plant tests with all agricultural crops conducted under the climatic conditions of Central Europe and lasting until the yield stage. The climatic conditions are controlled and monitored via computer. The controllable temperatures range from -15 °C to +50 °C, with humidity of 30 to 90 %, and an irradiance of 930 µE/m2s (at a distance of 500 mm) being combinable. This allows to conduct parallel tests for the reproducible comparison of different annual weather conditions and climatic zones. Between 2006 and 2008, the capacity utilisation of the growth chambers reached 75 %.
