Longcanes are mainly grown in tunnels and greenhouses. The longcane is grown in a substrate in order to optimally control the plant. With an even bud break after planting, laterals and flowers appear and will become fruit after pollination. In this way, the grower can accurately plan his harvest moment and yield.

The use of longcane ensures that the labour performance per man-hour increases, which benefits the profitability of the crop. Van den Elzen only uses high quality plug plants for the cultivation of longcanes. The plants are packed in different periods, depending on the purpose. Green-canes from the end of September and October and the longcanes for longer storage in November and December. Green-canes are delivered from the beginning of November till the end of December. The longcanes from the end of January till mid-July.

Van den Elzen Plants produces plug plants as well as longcanes of various raspberry varieties. The plug plants are produced from our own mother blocks in specially prepared greenhouses. The production of longcanes takes place on more than 175 hectares of cultivation area on specially designed fields. The fields are located within a radius of 50 kilometers and the varieties are spread over these fields for the purpose of risk spreading.

SUMMER- (FLORICANE) & AUTUMN (PRIMOCANE) RASPBERRY PLANTS:

Van den Elzen Plants produces longcanes of both summer- and autumn raspberries. The varieties we produce include Vajolet, Lagorai, Majestic, Endurance, Glen Ample and Tulameen and club varieties Diamond Jubilee and Sapphire.
