Electronic Individual Animal Identification
Nedap technology is based on electronic individual animal identification (RFID). This system ensures that no animal remains anonymous and that the health condition and performances of each individual animal can be immediately tracked and managed through the Nedap platform for the pig farming sector. A history record is built up for each individual animal, relating to performances and treatments. If required, this data can be shared with other partners within the chain.
Nedap supplies various electronic ear tags and handheld readers for the pig farming sector. For example, different colour coding is used for boars, gilts and sows: blue for boars and pink for gilts and sows. These electronic tags are made for single use. In the sow farming sector a white ear tag is used in addition to the pink variety. This type of ear tag is re-usable.
